01. Which is Official language of India and when it was declared? 

Hindi is Official language of India and it was declared as Official Language of the Union on 14.09.1949. 

02. From which date Official Language Policy came into effect? 

The Official Language Policy came into force with effect from 26.01.1950. 

03. When the Official Language Act was passed? 

The Official Language Act was passed in the year 1963. 

04. OL Rules are not applicable to Which State? 

The Official Language Rules are applicable to all states and union territories except on the State of Tamil Nadu. 

05. OL implementation comes under which Department in Central Government? 

Official Language Implementation comes under Dept. of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India.

06. How many members should be there in the Parliamentary Committee on OL? 

The Parliamentary Committee on Official Language has to be constituted with 30 members – 20 drawn from Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha. 

07. In which year OL Rules were framed? 

Official Language Rules were framed in 1976. 

08. What is the importance of Rule No 5 of OL Rules?

As per Rule 5 of OL Rules, a letter received in Hindi is to be replied in Hindi. 

09. What is the name of the Award given by Government to Ministries, Banks, Financial Institutions for use of Hindi ? 

“Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar” is given by Government to Ministries, Banks, Financial Institutions for use of Hindi. 

10. What is the full form of OLIC? 

OLIC stands for  Official Language Implementation Committee. 

11. What do you know about (OLIC) ? 

All branches have to constitute the Official Language Implementation Committee with Head of the branch as its Ex-officio Chairman. One meeting of the Committee to be convened in every 3 months (First month of every Quarter).  

12. What is the duration of each OLIC ? 

The OL Implementation Committee has to be reconstituted every year. 

13. Under what Rule specified documents need to be issued in bilingual (English and Hindi) ? 

As per Section 3(3) of OL Act 1963, certain specified Documents like general orders, notifications, circulars, notices, memos, etc. have to be invariably issued in bilingual (Hindi and English). 

14. What is importance of Hindi Day and when we celebrate Hindi Day? 

Hindi Day is celebrated on 14th September every year – to commemorate the constitutional recognition accorded to Hindi as the Official Language on 14.09.1949. 

15. Which languages are used in Parliament for transaction of business? 

In Parliament, Hindi & English are used for transaction of business. 

16. What is the Script of Hindi language? 

Script of Official Language Hindi is Devanagari. 

17. What numerals are used in OL? 

Numerals to be used in Official Language is International form of Indian numerals for e.g., 1, 2, 3… 

18. What is OL Rule 10 (4) ? 

An office/branch where 80% of the staff members attain working knowledge in Hindi, has to be notified in the official gazette under Rule 10(4). 

19. What is OL Rule 11 ? 

Rule 11 specifies that manuals, codes, stationery items, other prodecural literature, etc. should be in Bilingual (Hindi-English). 

20. What is Rule 12 of OL? 

As per Rule 12, responsibility of compliance of Official Language rules lies with the administrative head of the office. 

21. What should be  the order of languages in the name plates in language region ‘B’ & ‘C’ ? 

The order of languages in the name plates in language region ‘B’ & ‘C’ should be Regional Language (Official Language of the State), Hindi (Official Language of the Union) and English. 

22. What is the periodicity of OLIC Meetings? 

Periodicity of OLIC meetings – quarterly – calendar quarter. 

23. What is full from of TOLIC ? 

TOLIC stands for Town Official Language Implementation Committee 

24. What is the periodicity of TOLIC Meetings? 

Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) meetings – once in 6 months. 

25. What is the condition to be complied while purchasing books for Library in Branch/Office ? 

50% of total library budget should be used for purchase of Hindi Books. 

26. How we will consider an employee possess working knowledge in Hindi? 

If an employee passes Banking Pragya or has passed the Matriculation or an equivalent or a higher examination with Hindi as one of the subjects, it will be treated that he/she possesses working knowledge in Hindi. 

27. How we will consider an employee proficiency in Hindi? 

If an employee passes matriculation or equivalent or higher examination with Hindi as a medium of examination it will be treated that he/she possesses proficiency in Hindi. 

28. What are the Articles in Indian Constitution that deal with OL? 

The articles of Constitution dealing with Official Language – 343 to 351.
