MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) is being replaced by the new Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025, a significant legislative overhaul aimed at modernizing rural employment by extending guaranteed work days to 125 and aligning it with India's "Viksit Bharat @2047" vision.

Key Changes under VB-G RAM G:

Name Change: Drops "Mahatma Gandhi" and focuses on national development goals.

Increased Guarantee: Raises guaranteed work from 100 to 125 days per household annually.

Funding Shift: Moves towards a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, increasing state contribution (around 40%).

Centralized Control: Allows the Centre more power to investigate misuse and restrict work during peak seasons.

Focus: Aligns rural work with national infrastructure and sustainable development priorities.

This new law aims to create a more accountable, infrastructure-focused, and digitally governed rural employment framework for long-term growth.
